Between zwo separate documents there can't be a relationship so that a document automaticaly "knows" which is its chapter-number. You have to do that for each document manually in: /tools/outline numbering/numbering/Start at: Finally you can insert the documents in a "global document". The chapter-documents are linked so that you get always the newest version of the chapters when you open them in the global document. In the global document you start the chapter-numbering with 1 and all integrated chapters will automatically be serial numbered from 1 on If you do not need the chapter-number in each document, you can leave it at "1" in every chapter.
