There seem to have been a lot of reports of this behavior. I also encountered it. (I'm on Windows XP.) I re-installed OOo 2.0.2 and the problem went away. What I'm curious about is whether this is in fact a universal bug on 2.0.3, or whether it works fine for most people but there's a minority of people like me who have encountered it.
<snip>
On my Win XP Pro/SP2 system OOo 2.0.3 writer shows 10 "recent documents" which
seems to be correct *except* that it shows .ods (calc) and .odp (impress) documents as
well as .odt. I would expect *writer* to only show writer documents, calc to show calc
documents etc. But ...

OK, this pretty much proves that it's not a universal bug in 2.0.3, just something that affects some users. I'm on Windows XP (but not Pro)/SP2. Can't imagine that Home vs Pro would make a difference. My next step will be to re-download 2.0.3 and re-install it and see if it works like it should.

The behavior that you describe is exactly how OOo is designed to work. No matter what specific application you're in, it will show your 10 most recent documents, regardless of whether the documents are Calc, Writer, Impress, Draw, etc. Actually I kind of like it like that, myself. So I don't have any issue with that. If only it worked for me like it was supposed to!
