William: Could you please subscribe to the [email protected] mailing list as the solution to your problem will require some troubleshooting.
First, could you please provide the version number (this can be found in the Help -> about dialog box) and your operating system (Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed as an example). Second, could you provide a copy of the Calc spreadsheet that you have this problem with? Third, could you please try the following: Click on Data then Sort. This should bring up a dialog box. Click on the rows you want to sort on, then click on the Options tab. Ensure that the Rows have headers box is checked and insure the Top to Bottom item is clicked and not the Left to Right.
