On Debian etch, Gnome 2.14.2.1, OOo 2.0.3-2 (debian build):

The same.  Must be some OOo bug, maybe only of Debian and Ubuntu builds.

(To be correct, it's not a submenu that opens when clicking the
toolbar buttons, rather a selection window.)

The same, but it's definitely not a bug. Menu items cannot have "the
arrow part".

I tested Calc only, but see no reason why it should be different with
other Ooo aps.

Nothing of the kind.
By the way, on KDE it's the same.
