I may have missed what OS your using. On Linux the command is /usr/lib/000-2.0/program/spadmin (On SUSE 10.0). This command defines the printer to OpenOffice as the default. This will not solve any problem where you are trying to print a pdf from OpenOffice since it cannot print PDF files.
You need to find out why Acrobat won't print the file. I use Adobe Reader 7.0 (new name for Acrobat) and it prints PDF files fine.
