FWIW I've had no trouble with using the gallery for large collections.
I've imported the entire open clipart library with no hassle. Yes it
took some time but felt this was more due to PC speed than directly to
OOo.

I've also just done a test on this old machine I'm on at the moment
and searched for all objects on a drive, then loaded them into a newly
created theme. Whole process took 10 mins end to end for 1887 objects.

I bet it would be a little time consuming if you have 100-200k items
(as per the previous poster) but anything would take a little time
with that amount of items.

Also agree that cataloguing (ie, using meta names, or adding tags
etc...) may be improved and if someone is after that possibly a
request for enhancement should be raised.

Like most aspects of OOo, it is easy to add one or two things at a time,
but when it comes to 1K+, it becomes very time consuming, and/or error
prone.

gross "theme" concept.

If descriptive theme names are used, it _can_ work. But it doesn't make
for good digital art management.
