Many thanks. I tried it and it works. I see that having got it to open by
default at my main directory, if in future I only right click and then click
on "open" (e.g. rather than "select") on documents in sub-directories, the
"first opening" directory always stays as my main directory. Interesting!

Many thanks for your reply. I'm afraid I can't find where to make the
setting that ensures, when going to find and open a file after startup,
it
always opens at my main "Jeremy" directory. All can find is in "Paths",
the
"My Documents" setting, which I have set to my main "Jeremy" directory.
What it does every time at present is show the directory of the file I
last
used.
As you are not subscribed you may not have seen that:

I used to struggle with this one too. But I've found a way to make it
work for me.
I found that OOo remembers what directory I used last and will start
from there. Now when I use the quickstarter there are two ways to open a
document.
1. Double clicking the icon.
2. Right clicking the icon.
I use option 1 for documents in my 'default-directory' and option 2 for
all other documents.
As a third option I regularly use XYplorer (Windows explorer
replacement) to navigate to a directory to open OOo-documents.
