Checking in Tools>Customise was a good suggestion. I noticed that under the Keyboard tag there was no actio associated with the Delete key, yet when I changed the radio button on the right from Writer to OpenOffice.org the Delete key is associated with .uno:ClearContents. This might explain why it functions normally even in Calc, Base, Impress & Draw. Does anyone know how to assign this function to this key as I was unable to find in the Categories listed below it.
Thanks

It's possible, I suppose that the key has somehow become disassociated with the usual action.

There is a "Delete contents" command in the Edit category of Tools >Customise but I don't know whether that is the equivalent of the normal action.

You could check in Tools >Customise to see whether the key has become associated somehow with some other action. The default action is not shown so, if nothing is expressly associated, that's the default position.

Otherwise, I know it seems drastic but, if you have little in the way of personal settings, you could try renaming your user folder (while the software is closed) and see whether you then regain the use of the key.

Hi,
No the Del key itself doesn't seem to be the problem. Im using a laptop so the keyboard is attached, and the key works fine with any other program such as notepad, Thunderbird, even MS Works. Just with Writer have I seen this problem. Would it be a problem with my version of OOffice?

Does this happen when you are in other programs such as notepad? Have you
tried other keyboards? Try unplugging and and replugging it in.

Subject: [users] Del Key Not Working in OpenOffice Writer

Hi,
I am using version 2.0 of OpenOffice.org. I am finding that when I use Writer it will not allow me to use the Del key. When I press it nothing happens, and I have to move the cursor forward a space and use Backspace.
Have you heard of this problem before, or have any idea how to fix it?
Many thanks
Dermot
