I haven't followed this thread because there were so many postings,
there seemed to be several arguments going on and I do not use that OS
any longer.
When I did use it, I protected file associations with WinPatrol and
formed quite an attachment to its mascot, Scotty. It's well worth
checking it out: http://www.winpatrol.com/
The base software was free in the day and probably still is.
