I use Dragon Naturally Speaking with OOo 2.0.3 under Win XP SP2. It works. BUT if you correct a recognized sentence the correction doesn't alter the data base that rules the recognition process. So, you have to use their WordPad (?) app and then cut and paste into OOo

Ten years ago, there was speech recognition (Voice Type Dictation) in OS/2, that worked with *ANY* app.

IBM Dos 6.x contained a speech recognition function that worked with any program. That was released circa 1993.

a) Microsoft prohibited IBM from distributing OS/2 on new computers, unless the individual also paid for --- but did not receive --- the Windows operating system and certain other Microsoft software products. At a minimum, that action setback a11y in computers back fifteen years. [One of the markets that IBM owned at that time, was the a11y market.]

b) Microsoft has always had a hostile attitude towards a11y. From their point of view, the only good person who requires a11y devices is a dead person. [All of their a11y efforts are mere "tokenism" --- much like Corporate America had the "token black executive" during the sixties and seventies, or TV stations hired the Asian or Hispanic female newscaster during the eighties and nineties.]
