Hi Jud7J
I am attempting to download open office on dial up and before it is
finished, the computer shuts down the internet connection
automatically. Is there
any way I can download smaller sections at a time. I t currently
takes up to 16
hours to complete the download. Thanks for your help.
Yes! When downloading large files, it is advisable to use a download
manager that allows you to resume downloading from where you left off
if you can't download in one go.
Unfortunately, Microsoft Internet Explorer doesn't include a download
manager (assuming that is what you are using). Fortunately, there are
many around!
I use an alternative program to Microsoft Internet Explorer called
Opera (www.opera.com). Opera does include a download manager which can
do this.
If you prefer to use Internet Explorer, there are some download
managers that work well with it. One that I used to use is called
Download Accelerator Plus. It is available from www.speedbit.com.
I hope this helps. If you have more questions, please ask!

Personally I wouldn't even attempt to download a 100Mb file using
dial-up. It is far better to obtain the program on CD Rom. See:
http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/
Alternatively, OOo is supplied on a large number of free CD/DVD-Roms
given away with various computer magazines.
