One reason for my exploring the possibility of shifting to Open Office
(and Star Office) was my dissatisfaction with the manner in which pictures
(especially charts drawn up on packages like Photoshop) are reproduced

Unfortunately, I had similar problems with Open Office, though the
printouts appeared to be better.
Is this a problem which can be effectively addressed in the near future in
Open Office? I tend to prefer using a word processing package instead of a
desktop publisher because it is important for me to make effective use of
features such as outline numbering and so on. I prepare reports, which
require the numbering of headings and each paragraph and the insertion of
substantial number of pictures.
Many Thanks and Regards

Hi Paul.
I don't do many reports but one of my co-workers moved to OOo because of
inserting pictures into OOo was much better than Word. He had the
control of where and how the pictures were handled within a document in
comparison to Word's wanting to do it all for it'self.
At least with OOo, you don't have to pay to try. Note, you will lose
some of the formatting of pictures if you save as a *.doc file. This is
the only issue that my co-worker has really complained about.
My wife works for a company that uses Mac's. We use Linux at home and
there are some Windows machines that she uses. With OOo, all the files
work between all the OS's. With Word, there were issues between Mac and
Windows with graphics.
