Go to Format/Styles and Formatting, and select All Styles in the bottom drop-down list. Then *right click* (on Windows, don't know about *nix) on the style named "default". A menu will appear. Choose "Modify". On the Numbers tab, check the box labelled "Thousands separator". Click OK and close the style list. Existing numbers will be reformatted and new entries will have commas as appropriate.
