Make sure the language of your default text *style* is set to the language you want. Go to Format/Styles and Formatting. Choose Paragraph styles (the left most icon - looks like a paragraph mark). *Right* click on "Default" and choose Modify. On the Font tab there's a list labelled Language. Make sure it is correct and then click OK and close the Styles and Formatting menu.
