Unlike Base, which is based on a 'real' database, MS Access is not. It has severe limitations. I recommend anyone looking at MS Access to look at MySQL, PostgreSQL or one of the commercial solutions. > > The company I work for now purchased the designs and data for a unit > that we had > manufactured by the company I used to work for. This is why I recommend a big, relational database engine rather than dealing with half a solution. At least Base is a move in the proper direction. > > I had a database project in mind at the last company. The boss there > would not even > consider anything that did not run on MS Windows. And I agree with your sentiment. I would not touch a database project unless I had full unlimited access to the database. This is what I like about my current position. I AM the DBA.... Anyway, anyone care to discuss ODBC connections between OpenOffice.org Base and MySQL on a remote Linux server? There is an issue with this on the Mac OS X platform. I would like to know if this affects any other mixed operating system environments (say OOo on Windows, MySQL on a Linux server.) Thank you.
