You can change the file type that you save to, sort of permanently, buy selecting Tools then Options from the top menu bar. This will open a dialog box. On the left hand side, you will see a series of selections with plus signs to the left of them. Select the plus sign next to Load/Save. Select the General selection and in the right hand box, towards the bottom are two drop down menu items. The one on the left is the type of file and the one on the right is the default save style. If you wanted to save all text documents, by default, as MS Word 97/2000/XP, you would select Text Document as the Document Type and Save as Default as MS Word 97/2000/XP (.doc). You will loose some of the special formatting by choosing this file type as MS Word documents do not support some of the features of the OpenDoucment Text format.
