On my WinXP desktop, OOo saved the template to c:\Documents and 
Settings\Douglas Canning\Application Data\OpenOffice.org2\ 
user\template\  On my Win2K laptop it was saved to the corresponding 
folder.

It was saved with an .ott file extension.
