     You are right. That is why I suggested the test run using a 
database. Mail merge should only be done using a data source. Using a 
database as the data source is a very good idea although a 
spreadsheet can work.
     Personally, my addresses are contained in the tables of a dBase 
file. This way, the email field serves as the required column.
