I am working on the use of Heading Styles as well as of
'Tools>Outline Numbering...' myself.
If I conclude somehow, I'll post back.
Many thanks,
Alex.

You are correct. Open the Styles and Formating window (F11).
Click the List Styles icon. Right click 'section 2 numbering' and
select modify from the context menu. Select the 'Options' tab.
Click
Level 2 to highlight it. Change 'Show sublevels' for 1 to 2. This
should do it.

Dan,
No, that didn't work, either. All I get is single-level numbering,
not
of the 1.x sort.
If I select the lines which I would like to demote, and then
right-click, I can then select 'Down one level', which does the
trick,
if I've done what you suggest.
It still isn't what I need, though. I need all this to be taken care
of by the style, and be done automatically. I don't want to have to
remember what to demote and what not.
Many thanks.
Let me look into the use of Headings styles. I use these at my work
place, but there we are 'stuck' with MS Office.
