To set up Java under Mac OS X, you need to go to the top menu item tools, select options and then select the OpenOffice.org item and expand it (if it is not already) then select Java. Click the "Use a Java Run Time environment" button if it is not already selected (the circle must be filled in.) The Mac OS X version will look for an installed JRE in /Library/System/Frameworks/JavaVM.frameworks directory. If you managed to install a JRE somewhere else, you will have to tell OpenOffice.org where you installed it by clicking on the New button and answering the wizard questions. As installed, OpenOffice.org detected both my 1.4.2_09 and 1.5.0_06 JRE installations.
