I just used email merge using Seamonkey (Mozilla), and everything
worked fine. I emailed it from one of my email accounts to another
one. (These two accounts use two different email servers.) I did see
this Header when I retrieved this email:
 X-Mailer: OpenOffice.org 2.0 via Caolan's mailmerge component.
This is what I did. Using Tools > Options > Internet > Email, I
entered the path to the seamonkey file (I use Linux, and the
seamonkey file is a bash file that starts and runs seamonkey.bin.)
Then I clicked OK and closed OOo. I reopened OOo and created an email
message. I opened the Data Sources window using F4 and selected the
table which contained the desired email addresses. I clicked the Mail
Merge icon and followed the directions.
From what you wrote, you have Netscape listed as your email
client and the path to it in Tools > Options > Internet > Email.
Check the settings in the Mail section of Netscape. Edit > Mail and
Newsgroups Account Settings > Outgoing Server (SMTP). If this is not
set correctly, the Mail Merge will fail to send any messages.
You might want to consider switching from Netscape to Seamonkey
as your email client. (They have very similar layouts.)
