Why bother with complicated calculations if you can just use the time notation to let Calc do its calculations? Enter the formula like this:

=IF(C2<06:00:00;C2;C2-0:30:00)

After you press Enter Calc will transform the timevalues to their decimal equivalent.

I think this should be easy, if I understand it correctly.

Let's say that cell C2 contains the number of hours Jenny worked. (5, 6, 7, etc.)

In cell C3, put the following formula: =IF(C2<6;C2;C2-0.5)
Alternatively, if C2 is in Time format, and/or has been calculated, say, from stop-time less start-time (in Time format), then 0.5 will probably represent one half day (12 hours) rather than one half hour. That is, if using Time formatted cells, time is represented internally as a fraction of one day. So, if the formula above gives unexpected results, try:

=IF(C2<(6/24);C2;C2-(0.5/24))

If the number of hours is less than 6, then C3 will be the number of hours. If the number of hours is 6 or greater, then c3 will be the number of hours minus 0.5.

Subject: [users] Needing help - formulae

Hey there

Just one more question with formulaes.......

I'm not very good with words so I'm going to state what I'm trying to do.

I'm trying to calulate employee's hours which with help from earlier have solved the problem. The thing is.... I need to deduct their breaks from the hours worked.

I have tried using an IF funcation but to no avial. Could you tell me which function to use for this following example and if possible could you fully type out the equation?

Any shifts that IS UNDER 6 hours will remain the same.

Any shifts that IS OVER 6 hours and ABOVE will need to be deducted 30mins from their total hours.

so Jenny who worked for 6 hours will have her break deducted hence her actual working hours was 5:30 hours

Kind regards

Johans
