Doesn't on my system (Win XP Pro/SP2). I use Firefox as the default browser,
Outlook Express as the default email and Internet Explorer *occasionally* to
handle the sites that don't/won't support Firefox. The three don't interfere
with each other in any way.

In Firefox Tool>Options>General there's a check box labelled "Firefox should
check to see if it is the default browser when starting". I have this
UNchecked. Next to the check box is a button labelled "Check Now". If I press
it and Firefox is *not* the default browser it offers me the choice of making
it the default browser; otherwise it says it is already the default.

In Internet Explorer Tools>Internet Options>Programs there is an equivalent
check box (which I also have UNchecked). There is also a button labelled "Reset
Web Settings" which, according to the Help, will make IE the default browser.

Internet Explorer Tools>Internet Options>Programs also has a drop-down list of
e-mail programs. My list contains Outlook Express and Hotmail. I don't know if
Thunderbird knows how to add itself to this list ...

Outlook Express Tools>Options>General has a box labelled "Make default". On my
system this is greyed out because Outlook Express is already the default.

I would imagine that Thunderbird has a similar facility. My guess is that it's
in Tools>Options>????
