I recommend using NeoOffice as it is uses the same code but is easier to use than OpenOffice.org on the Mac. It is the same thing with a familiar Mac interface. It uses the 2.0.3 version and has all the same features and file format. It doesn't require X-Windows. And it is completely open source as well.
