I htought It might be the MySQL driver I am using, jdbc, but then I
tried all the availabe versions:
mysql-connector-java-3.0.17-ga-bin.jar
mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin.jar
mysql-connector-java-5.0.3-bin.jar
and no change. Do you think it's a bug ??
I have uninstalled OOo that comes with Fedora 4, and installed teh
latest RPM from openoffice.org, but no luck.
Then I decided to use unixODBC with MyODBC, and stuck there in a very
long process. Couldn't get them to work
and connect for some reason. Please let me know if you have any idea.
The funny part is that when I create tables through the wizard, I can
set auto increment. And yes I agree with about
using MySQL directly. I know it's faster, but not every body is
comfortable with it, I have few beginners that came from Microsoft world
and need them to use OO. If it's up to me, I would use direct SQL commands.
Thanks alot for your help, here's what I have:
I am sure it's not a permission issue, because I created the table
remotely and then tried to modify it. Every thing works fine, I can
delete it, insert values, add fields, and remove fields. I can delete
and recreate the table. If I close the program and reconnect again
through the
text interface, I will see all my changes there. So I am positive, it's
not the privileges issue. I am connected as admin. This is the account I
created, and
granted all the privileges on this DB. I can connect remotely through
this account using the text client or OpenOffice-base. Things work
great, except for this little annoying thing, keeping me away from
setting this envirment for DB newbies.
I am starting to believe it's a bug in the RPM version of the software.
I tried to install it on windows machine and check if I can do this.
However, I couldn't for some reason load the MySQL driver, which is
another issue, and not being a window fan, I decided to try this as a
last solution, to find out what's the problem. I have this funny feeling
that it's a bug in the software, because if it was the driver, creating
tables using wizard will never enable you to set the fields to auto
increment. On the other hand, this works fine if you are trying it on a
local DB file.
It would be great if it was an easy task to compile OpenOffice from
source and check it my self. right ??
I tried this before and never got anywhere especially knowing that my PC
is 64 bit !
If you have any advice let me know.
now that I know you have a terminal..(good for you not winblows). can you
logon to the remote systems (where your db resides) and see what permissions
you have on the db or the table in question.. perhaps you don't have ALTER
privileges on the table... Since you indicate that you can set update if you
are creating a new table.. I makes me wonder.. I would not be looking at the
driver.. It is unlikely the culprate.. I have altered tables from inside OO
however I had ALL privileges on the db and the table.. I owned it and it was
on a remote server... If you don't have access to mysql is there an admin
around that can look at the privilege table..
Typically I set the entire schema inside mysql then use OO for forms to read
and write the db.. and it works really cool.. a nice very quick interface..

I just re-read you note.. it could be the privilege table has different
permissions.. are you accessing with [EMAIL PROTECTED] with mypassword.. ?
I think you need to find out privileges on the table..
