Hi,

I am a technology trainer for the Kentucky Court of Justice; we are
beginning to implement the OpenOffice.org office suite.

In working with the Kentucky Court of Appeals in developing an opinion
setup, we have had a request for legal and medical dictionaries to be used with the spellchecker in OOo.
Do you have any advice or suggestions?

Hello Candyce

There are no "formal" specialised dictionaries available for OOo as yet.

There are a couple of ways around this, mostly involving collections of words made by users. Of course if you can download a list, the methods can be used to make the words available to OOo. One limitation is that variants of the "root" word, such as capitalisations, apostrophes and plurals are not recognised, and have to be added.

There is a macro at:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=87718&package_id=114694

This enables you to load a "private" dictionary with iirc up to 2000 words.

An alternative, if you want/need more words is explained in http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=52103

Have a look at these and the other responses and see what you can make of them.

Regards

Russell
