Once the autoinput suggestion appears, hit F2 to accept it and switch to editing mode.
Also, once the autoinput suggestion appears, you can choose a different possible completion by hitting TAB or Shift+TAB (unfortunately it's not a circular list), or you can type Ctrl+D to get a dropdown of all the previous entries for that column.
