"bad fonts" is not exactly useful :)

what is so bad about them ? are they "raggy", like having non-smooth outline ? or are they placed in an unpleasant way ?

things you could check :

1. modify default paragraph style & enable "pair kerning" (in position tab). also make sure default font is set to the one you desire.

2. check that the font which looks bad is listed in font dropdown list. if it is not, the font is not available to oo.org and is actually silently substituted by another

3. oo.org might have problems with antialiasing on your system. if all other programs have good looking & smooth fonts, but oo.org fonts look pixelated, i'd suggest contact your distribution support (i suppose this is mandriva provided oo.org, right ?) and finding out how you can enable antialiasing for oo.org, too.

Dear OpenOffice,

I have just installed OOo 2.0.3 in my computer running Mandriva Linux.

Before, with other versions of OOo, I don't remember exactly wich ones, I
had no problems with the fonts, but now the fonts look bad. Not only the
ones I installed from MS as Arial, Verdana, but even Times New Roman, etc...

I have been reading a lot of documentation and questions in different
forums, but there seems to be no solution for this issue.

I am always using OOo, but I really think you should consider this issue as
number one, because it is really important to be able to work with nice
characters in the screen.

I hope your next update of OOo will solve this problem.

Regards,

Santiago.
