Unfortunately, there is no equivalent of the Excel "text to columns"
feature.
There are reportedly macros that can be obtained that accomplish this
function, but I made one brief attempt at using one and was not able
to figure out how to get it to work. But then again, I'm not a macro
type of person, so I'm sure it was user error, and not a problem with
the macro.
I think that this would be a very important enhancement for Calc.
The two add-ons available are:
Text to columns: http://www.ooomacros.org/user.php#104183
Text2Columns - fixed width http://www.ooomacros.org/user.php#133089
There is no real science involved in using them. They are zipped
packages which you install with Tools >Package Manager. Do NOT unzip
the files. Place them somewhere safe and point the Package Manager at
each in turn to install it.
I have only the first installed and it is used with Tools >Add-ons >Text
to Columns.
