No, the site you posted above is way out of date. Linux has handled
OpenType fonts without a problem for a long time.

Also, it can't be fixed because it doesn't need to be fixed in Linux.
What needs fixing is the bug in OO.o. What I wanted find out is if that
bug has finally been fixed in 2.04.

Note: I have several dozen OpenType fonts installed on my Linux
computer. All work flawlessly in all applications except OO.o. My
problem is not a problem of getting them installed in Linux. And the
OpenType fonts that are from Microsoft do work in OO.o because they
were originaly TrueTypes. Unfortunately, I never want to use those
fonts (Arial, Times New Roman -- ugh!). What I want to use are the
professional Adobe fonts I paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars for
and that I use for typesetting textbooks. And Adobe OpenType fonts are
all Type 1's with the OpenType wrapper. In fact, of all OpenType fonts
currently available, only the handful from Microsoft are TrueTypes with
the OpenType wrapper. The vast majority were originally Type 1s. Again,
all my OpenType fonts, including those from Adobe, appear in the
dropdown list for all applications on my Linux computer EXCEPT in OO.o.

I realize that if you are typesetting books and doing design work you
should not be using OpenOffice.org and Linux. You may now tell me to go
buy a Windows computer and put Microsoft Office on it. I won't take the
advice, but feel free to tell me to do so anyway. :) Anyway, I do have
a Windows computer. It's what I have to use because OO.o on Linux
cannot see my OpenType fonts. Please, someone tell me that OO.o has
finally fixed the bug!
