Howard,
I don't know the answer to your "why..." but the "Moderated" tag only
*sometimes* appears in the subject lines of messages from non-subscribed users. I wouldn't even say
it *usually* appears; just sometimes.
As far I know the only 100% reliable way to tell if the person is not subscribed is to
look at the "Delivered to" mail *headers*.
If the person is subscribed, there will be only 1 such header: "Delivered-To:
mailing list [email protected]".
If the user is not subscribed there will be an *additional* header: "Delivered-To:
moderator for [email protected]".
Some e-mail programs, apparently, can filter on these headers. Some e-mail
programs can be asked always to display these headers. Mine (Outlook Express)
offers no possibilities for filtering.on these headers and can only be
persuaded to show them to me on a message by message basis.
Not to take the thread too far off subject, but I'd seriously
recommend that you switch mail clients. Thunderbird is a common first
choice, but on windows you have many, many options. And the nexrt
Eudora will be TB based:

If you're considering switching to Linux, I'd recommend Kmail.
Although, if you do start using Thunderbird now, then that's one less
app that you'll need to relearn, as TB is available on Linux.
