I am using version 2.04 of OpenOffice.org. My problem is that
neither Word count nor Character count work in the word processing
program automatically on the document I have open. If I select any
or all of the document, I can get a word and character
count. Previous versions would automatically update the count of the
active document. This feature has not worked since I updated my
software yesterday. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

no problem here either, with OOo 2.0.4 on iMac with Panther.
maybe specify your operating system?
