A round-about-way to access the data is using my other computer with
probably a still usable copy of Quattro Pro 9 program. Since I am just
beginning to learn OpenOffice programs this problem has been selected as
an early portion of the educational program. A tour of faq list did not
indicate any potential help. It is not unlikely that I have missed the
needed trail.

Try it, it may work. I have opened some QP spreadsheets but I don't
remember what version they were created with.
