Since when do small businesses use Lin-Win-Mac in the same company?
You more likely to find a plethora of different operating
systems in a small company, than a large one.

It depends upon the industry, and the specific functions of
the employees.
* Audio work: Windows;

Having office suite with identical interface across different OSes is
marginal reduction in cost of supporting multiple OSes in the same
company (which was the point).
Besides, if there is an IT dept in small business it will prefer single
platform. If there is no IT dept and everybody is on their own , then
noone cares about what others are doing.
But in some cases it isn't a choice. You purchase a new piece of
equipment and it requires Windows XP to run. Great, your a Mac shop and
now you have Windows XP to deal with. Damn.
Even in our large organization, the IT people are over worked and don't
provide much support for the Linux users. We have setup or own Linux
support group.
