Ok.  But I think your problem could be isolated to
Thunderbird/SeaMonkey/Mozilla Mail which should be based on the same
engine. 

As I stated, I am a Mac User, but I do have a Windows XP SP2 machine (my
SO is a college student and has to have access to one) and can get
Thunderbird/SeaMonkey installed on it.  This way I can at least confirm
that Outlook (or Outlook Express) works and SeaMonkey/Thunderbird does
not.  Does this appear to be good to you?

I know that Thunderbird does not work on the Mac due to the way that it
starts.
