Aha! When I saw that bit I realised that re-installation wouldn't be necessary and all I had to do was remove the local folder ~/.openoffice with all the things to be remembered. And it did the trick without too much carnage. Fortunately this happened in my work account. Had it happened in my heavy-duty writing account I would have lost all my quirky settings and not been a happy bunny! > Sorry the news isn't better. 'Tis ok - it could have been a lot worse. The Powers-That-Be should be having a good long look at this, though, because mail-merging is important and this defect has the potential to be very annoying indeed.
