STYLES are your friend..  First off check out the seciton in the documentation 
on I think it is called "long documents"  This keeps your life simple as it 
automatically keeps each chapter in a seprate file.  

as for the numbering.. when you insert a page break IE at the end of the 
chapter.. <insert><manual break><select page><select the next style you want 
like left or right page, click on change page number and insert 1
