After I installed X11 from the Tiger Installation disc, OpenOffice
works, albeit very slowly.
Its a little confusing at first as the first thing you see is the X11
command screen and you wonder  "What the heck is this".
However I noticed the OO icon in the Dock, clicked on it and away we
went.
It took an age for the program to open and for a new page to open. I
hope that this will change when I use it for th second time!!

I'm afraid OOo will continue to wake up rather slow on a Mac. I hope this
will change when the developers will succeed in making it work without X11.

There is another thread at this mailinglist comparing and discussing speeds
of M$ and OOo, but I think that's silly: this issue is not speed, but Open
Document vs. proprietory software. A helping community, users have a say in
new enhancements, etc.
