There is a macro here: http://www.ooomacros.org/user.php#128899
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, whatever was wrong has been fixed. I've just downloaded it. A direct link (used by my downloader) is
http://dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/ooomacros/global_InsertDateTime.zip
I've never used the macro. I can see the need for Writer but for Calc, at least on systems not using the American date format, 27/ (replacing the / with the appropriate separator) enters today's date, 27/10/2006.
A cell style combined with a keyboard shortcut takes care of the format.
