File -> Wizards -> Install new dictionaries. Follow the prompts to
download DictOOo which will allow you to download and install
additional
dictionaries right from within OOo. There are multiple French
dictionaries to choose from.

Make sure that you set the style correctly for your French
words and with other languages. If an entire paragraph is one
language, that paragraph's style should be set to the correct French
language in the Font tab.
Any French words located in a paragraph containing another
language should be using a character style with the correct French
language set in its Font tab.
