Hello there, I'm writing an application in which I want to enable the user to do some complex, custom calculation within a Calc or MS Excel document. The user should create a "template" Calc-Sheet which is later to be filled from my application. What possibilities does Calc offer to use "variables" or "fields" in the document? How would you go about solving this problem? Probably you have a whole different approach. It should be, of course, as easy for the user as possible while preserving large flexibility.
Is there probably a way that's (more or less) "compatible" with doing the same in MS Excel? This is not a requirement, because I don't have problems with telling my users to install a solid, free application to do those custom calculations -- there is, however, a huge base of Excel-semi-gurus and virtually ever company has at least one of those. On the other hand, our company tries to push OpenOffice.org as much as possible for it's customers, so maybe disbanding MS Excel for this "advanced" feature isn't that bad after all. I'm looking forward to see how well does Calc in this regard.
