Go to http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.4/. Click the green
"Download OpenOffice.org" box. This expands this green box. At the
very bottom of this green box is the sentence "Please check the
md5sum." It has a link to how you can use md5sum to verify that the
file you downloaded is the same as the one created by OpenOffice.org.
Do this before you do anything else.
Once you have verified that you have a good copy, you need to do
two more things before installing the program. They need to be done
in this order: disconnect from the internet, and then disable your
anti-virus program.
Now, you need to log in as the Administrator or as a user with
Administrator rights. Then double click the file
(OOo_2.0.4_Win32Intel_install.exe) to begin the installation process.
DO NOT check any boxes referring to MS Office programs unless you
want OpenOffice.org to open these file types when double click the
file.
When the installation is finished, log out as Administrator and
log in to your normal user account. (This assumes that your normal
user account does not have Administrator rights, and in fact it
should not for security purposes.) Then start your anti-virus
software before reconnecting to the internet. NOTE: the order you do
these two things is the opposite as when you disconnected.
