I produce two documents from a .csv data file.  The file is updated
each week.  The data is merged into a table that grows as the data is
entered.  That means there is no page break between each data entry
and the table or page can be filled as the data keeps comming.  What I
end up with is either a sheet(s) of name tags (more complex than your
basic mailing labels) or a roster list table on a sheet with
appropriate header, footer and additional data collection space.

In MSWord I do a mail merge.  In the merge process, the merge document
is considered a "catalog".  Is there similar functionality in OOo.  In
my trial and error and research I've found mail merge is not real easy
if you want to get complex.

In MSWord I have it automated so I do very little work to produce
these very nice looking Name Tag & Roster Sheets.  I would like to do
the same in OOo but it all starts with merging to a table that can
grow with the amount of data.
