Yes, it would be nice if this list had a purely web-based unsubscribe facility 
but ...

In my experience the confirmation e-mails arrive within a few seconds, a couple 
of minutes at most, of sending an unsubscribe request - not just to this list 
but to many others that I have unsubscribed from over the years. I think the 
main problem with this thread is that the OP didn't realise that confirmation 
is a requirement and [therefore?] never noticed the request. E-mail spoofing, 
the reason for requiring confirmation, is yet another of those concepts that 
people are not aware of. 

Perhaps the instructions at the bottom of all the e-mails in this list could be 
modified from 

   "To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]"

to

  "To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and click the link in the 
confirmation request that will be sent to you"

or something like that ???
