Harold,
When you say that it lets you change the setting, do you mean the page
orientation setting in the OOo application, found under Format, Page,
or do you mean the printer settings under File, Printer Settings? If you
you have the OOo application page format set to landscape but the
printer orientation setting is still on portrait then this could be the
cause of the problem.
