Yes, thanks, Arnold and all who replied.

I discovered after a lot of editing that the second sheet in the file was the source of my difficulties. I have now saved that sheet as a separate file. I was using it occasionally to generate random sets of data. The document in question is a file I use for testing.

As a matter of interest, the formulas on the second sheet were based on the functions RAND(), RANK() and HYPERLINK (one only of the last). It may have been the formulas in the second category causing the problem.

All references in the formulas were to other ranges on the second sheet so I do not know why the operation of Data >Sort on all sheets should fail to work. For that matter, the sort feature should not be affected by any formulas, but it was affected by something on that sheet.

The feature now works correctly and, of course, I get the same result as everyone else.

I was investigating the feature because a user on the forum wants to sort several rows simultaneously instead of one by one. Having been diverted by my own strange experience, I have made no progress with that.
