The solution for your problem depends on what your boss needs to do with 
the files you send him. I think the best solution would be to choose 
File/Send/Send as Microsoft ... This way your boss can read and edit the 
files, but your harddisk doesn't get cluttered up with extra files that 
you don't need.

Alternatively you could also save your OpenOffice files in MSFT-format 
and even make this the default for all the files you create with 
OpenOffice. If your boss just needs to read the files you could also 
export them as PDF and send him the pdf-version.
