When you installed OpenOffice you were given the choice to make it the default 
"handler" for MS Office documents.

1. If you chose that option then you can open MS Office documents in OpenOffice 
just by double clicking on them.

2. If you didn't choose that option then *right* click on a document, choose 
"Open With" and, if OpenOffice is in the list choose it otherwise choose 
"Choose Program" and find the OpenOffice program ("soffice.exe") in whichever 
folder you installed it. If , on this route, you click "Always use the selected 
program to open this kind of file" then you'll be back to double clikcing as 
per #1 above.

Just out of curiosity, which version of OpenOffice have you installed - click 
Help, then About and read the number *below* the headline. The headline says 
"2.0" (probably). The number we want has at least two dots in it.
