Hi Frank and James,When I check the X11 crash history (X!!.crash log), I see every time the same error message: "image not found". That is a good step. What should I do to change that? Thank You. I also have just started to check the Apple - Support - Discussions - Search Discussions (http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa? q=X11&objID=c160&rankBy=10001&start=15). I didn't yet go through but I can see that thousands of users encounter the same problem (obviously). I hope to find there some solutions to my (identical?) problem.Thnks Le 06-11-11 à 09:22, Christopher Frank a écrit :Hi Laurent, this is obviously a new issue, but it is well known. I think that you will not need to re-install X11 so: http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/ and read the News of 5.11.2006. (Apple updated X11 with wrong "VERA"-Fonts) There is a work around. In most cases this workaround will solve the problems. And again: please be careful with sudo commands. If this will not work - I will not have a clue about where these problems come from.James gave you the tip to consult the french list. Maybe a local dealer or Mac-guru is able to help you. Christopher Am 11.11.2006 um 03:59 schrieb Laurent Chabot:James, Christopher,Thanks for all that help; it seems that I am progressing. It worked with the password with your instructions. And I succeeded in opening OO, but nothing happens: no file, no document.. It seems to me that it is now because of my problem with X11 which still does not work. I tried to re-install X11user.pkg, but I get the message that it cannot be installed on my hard disk because I have a newer version installed (which is "X11Update2006.pkg". Should I delete this package and try to re-install "X11usr.pkg" or else..?Laurent Le 06-11-10 à 15:59, Christopher Frank a écrit :Hi Laurent,-I then entered "sudo RM/Library/Receipts/X11user.pkgSome questions - maybe silly:did you leave a blank between "rm" and "/Library/R....." ? The line above does not have the required blank. And - just an idea: Apple terminal is - like nearly all Unix/ Linux derivates - case sensitive, so "RM", "Rm", "rm" and "rM" are four different commands. The right command is in small letters. And it will rEmOVE sth.-AND I AM STUCK AGAIN on that freeze when I try to enter my password (does not take ANY letter). Can you help a bit more about entering my passwork, solving that freeze problem.Maybe there is a fundamental misunderstanding: If you type your password, the cursor of the terminal-app will _not_ move (for security reasons or whatever) and there will be no (optical) feedback. Just enter the password and hit "return". That's simple. And a hint to sudo: please be _very_ careful with the sudo command (like all root-commands on unix-machines). The command empower you to crash the whole machine. So please acurately follow the advices given by James and/or the documentation. Did you hold the right sequence of installing / deleting stuff?hope this helps and good luck. ChristopherThanks-P.S. I have a French version. Does it have any impact of accessing something?Le 06-11-10 à 00:38, James McKenzie a écrit :Laurent Chabot wrote:First, the X symbol for X11 is there on the dock, and when I try to open, it just bounces, and nothing else. You're right, X11 stoppedworking, as well as OO, after updating X11.I reinstalled the system fro the installation disc. But I don't see X11User.pkg on the installation disk under packages or utilities orelse but I can see it thow on my hard disk.Second, when I try to enter my password, I can't even write a singleletter. Nothing happen, it is like a freeze, except that I make returns or enters. ThanksLaurent:This appears to be more than just a simple OpenOffice.org problem.First, if you are logged on as an user with administrative rights, using the sudo program should accept a password. It appears that your system may be corrupt and your hard drive maybe experiencing problems. I highly recommend taking your system to someone to get it serviced andhave the hard drive checked.Second, If the X11 icon is in the dock this does not mean that the X11 program is installed. Is this program in the Applications -> Utilities folder? If it is, click on the icon. Does anything happen? Can you open a terminal session, expand it to full screen width and then type inthe following command: ps -aux You should see two lines similar to the following:bubba 20047 0.0 0.1 27728 792 ?? S 8:05PM 0:00.01/Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11bubba 20056 0.0 1.0 353844 10700 ?? S 8:05PM 0:25.33 /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11 -nolisten tcp :0These signify that the X11 application is running and waiting for aprogram to request its services. If you do not see these two lines, X11 needs to be reinstalled and thisrequires the usage of the sudo command like so: sudo rm /Library/Receipts/X11user.pkgbut you cannot enter a password in order to use this program. Again, this may require you to take your Mac to an Apple service center, or if you have Mac Gurus at your local Apple store they may be able to fixthis problem.Good luck and hopefully you will be able to get this situation resolved.James McKenzie----------------------------------------------------------------- ----To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]------------------------------------------------------------------ ---To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Viele Grüße Christopher Frank -- Aberlestraße 16 D-81371 München tel +49 89 6928585 mobil: +49 176 50119950------------------------------------------------------------------- --To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]-------------------------------------------------------------------- -To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Viele Grüße Christopher Frank -- Aberlestraße 16 D-81371 München tel +49 89 6928585 mobil: +49 176 50119950 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]--------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
