First of all did you check the md5sum for the *.tar.gz file you
downloaded? Open Konsole (if you are using KDE). Since md5sum is a
program installed on most if not all Linux distributions, type
md5sum OOo_2.0.4_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz
in the command line. Hit the Enter key to run it. Compare the sequence
of numbers and letters to what is listed at
http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.4/md5sums.html for the downloaded
file. If this is good, then follow the instructions on this page:
http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.4/instructions.html down through
step 4.
Step 5. execute:
rpm -Uvh *.rpm. (This should install OOo.)
Step 6.
cd desktop-integration/
Step 6.
Find the file which matches your Linux distribution. (debian is debian
based distributions, red hat is for red hat distributions including
Federa core 3, mandriva Mandriva, and suse is for Suse).
Step 7.
rpm -Uvh followed by the file you found in step 6.
Step 8.
Close Konsole
